"Hamas can express itself as it pleases - but this statement is ridiculous," Berko said. "The organization may try to differentiate or distance itself from ISIS terror, but both Hamas and ISIS have similar origins and operations."
"What inspired the Nice perpetrator?" Berko questioned. "The Palestinians! He drew inspiration from the same people who birthed the notion of vehicular attacks, suicidal bombers, and plane abductions."
In order to draw similarities between Hamas and ISIS, Berko referred to images from Gaza post Operation Pillar of Defense. "Gazan residents suspected of cooperating with Israel, were hung," she said. "And they donned orange uniforms - identical to those of ISIS."
Likud MK Oren Hazan reaffirmed Berko's criticism of Hamas.
"There is no limit to what Hamas terrorists will say and do," he said. "The destiny of Hamas is one, like that of ISIS and Hezbollah: death, death, death."
Hamas claimed its condemnation of the Nice attacks was in line with the organization's "fundamental moral and humane principles, which oppose all forms of extremism and terror."
The organization concluded its statement by empathizing with victims of the attack, relating their pain to the "struggle" of the Palestinian people, who have "severely suffered from Israeli terror over the span of decades."
