The movement among unhappy Republicans to strip Donald Trump of the nomination at next week’s convention is “nevermore,” a top aide to the campaign declared Friday.
{mosads}”As far as I’m concerned, the Never Trump movement is nevermore,” campaign chairman Paul Manafort said Friday on Fox News.
“It was a bunch of rogue, malcontent delegates, and they understood very clearly that denying Donald Trump the nomination through some backroom deal would have destroyed the Republican Party — and not just the presidential election but probably the Congress as well.”
The Republican National Convention’s rules committee Thursday voted overwhelmingly to reject a proposed amendment that would have allowed delegates to ignore the results of primaries and caucuses in their states and vote for the candidate of their choice.
“Anti-Trump people get crushed at Rules Committee,” Manafort tweeted Thursday after the vote.
“It was never in doubt: Convention will honor will of people & nominate @realdonaldtrump.”
