According to a statement posted on the company's website, the contract is worth a mid-range eight-figure euro amount and builds on the existing supply relationship between the companies and the Canadian Government.

The companies will supply 2,450 Omnitrap decoy rounds to Canada, as part of an order received last year.

GD-OTS manufactures Rheinmetall 40mm LV and HV rounds under licence as well as parachute illumination rockets for the Canadian forces.

Earlier in 2009, Rheinmetall was contracted to equip 12 Canadian Halifax-class frigates with multi ammunition softkill system (MASS).

Designed to be installed on all types of vessels, the MASS automated decoy system offers protection against incoming anti-ship missiles.

Currently, MASS is in service with the navies of 13 nations.

Most Canadian frigates are fitted with MASS systems along with a basic load of Omnitrap and MASS Dueras decoy ammunition.
