What will India’s first world-class railway station, being built (redeveloped) at Madhya Pradesh’s Habibganj, look like? Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu-led Indian Railways has signed a PPP (Public-Private Partnership) agreement for the ambitious Rs 450 crore redevelopment and modernization project of Habibganj Railway Station.
The agreement was signed between Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation (IRSDC) and Bansal Group. The total estimated cost of station redevelopment is Rs 100 crore, whereas the estimated cost of commercial development is approximately, Rs 350 crore.

Indian Railways plans to redevelop 400 stations and apart from Habibgaj, IRSDC will also develop Chandigarh, Surat, Shivaji Nagar, Brijwasan, Anand Vihar, Mohali and Gandhinagar stations.
Railways plans that just like modern airports, Habibganj Railway station will have dedicated pick up and drop off parking facilities for station users. Environment friendly practices, solar energy generation, catering and food stalls, public conveniences at affordable rates and accessibility to differently abled people are among some of the many provisions that the redeveloped “world-class” station will have.
