US State Department Confirms 2 Citizens Killed in Attack in Nice

The US Department of State confirmed on Friday earlier media reports that two US citizens were among those killed in attack on the French southern city of Nice.

Two US Citizens Killed in Nice Truck Attack
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day US media reported, citing a person close to the family, that Sean Copeland, 51, and his son, Brodie, 11, were possible victims of attack in Nice.

"We can confirm two U.S. citizens were killed in #NiceAttack. We express condolences to family and friends of those killed," the state department said on Twitter.

​Late on Thursday evening, a heavy truck rammed into a crowd celebrating the Bastille Day in Nice, killing 84 and injuring dozens.

The driver was shot dead by police. According to documents found inside the truck, he was a 31-year-old man who was a resident of Nice of Tunisian origin.
