Drone to monitor Kanpur traffic

KANPUR: To ease the chaotic traffic scenario in the city, the traffic police department would now be using the drone. The purpose of this exercise would be to ensure that smooth traffic flow can be maintained. In the first phase, a single drone is being procured and the traffic police department has got funds.
But, before commencing the use of the drone in the industrial city, a team of traffic cops would be trained.They would be told about how to operate the drone. Also, during the course of the training, the cops would be trained on repairing minor faults so that they are able to address a snag if it at all occurs. The training of the cops is likely to begin from next week.
While the drone would help in identifying the jammed crossings and prominent roads, it would also help in identifying those who break the traffic rules. With thhis, the cops would be able to rush to the area under jam and decongest it, rash drivers and those who will flout rules would have to face action. The drone would click the picture of the vehicle having flouted the traffic rules and this would give cops a chance to prepare the challan for penalising the owner. The challan generated would be sent to the home of the trouble mongers.
At a later stage, the drone camera could also be brought to use to monitor rallys, or capture riots or fly over localities which are densely populated. With election time nearing in the state of Uttar Pradesh, the drone fitted with high powered cameras would be used to monitor the rallies that will be held.
The demo of the functioning of these drones was given by the officials of a Delhi based private company on Wednesday at police lines before SSP Shalabh Mathur, SP Traffic Sarvanand Yadav and other senior officials of police. The functioning of the drone impressed the police officials who decided that one such unit be procured for better traffic management and policing.
Talking to TOI, SSP Shalabh Mathur said that funds have been released by the government for procuring one drone. Mathur said that this drone would be used by the traffic cops for monitoring the traffic mess but before being handed over to traffic department, a training session for the cops would be held beginning next week.
The highlight of the drone which was displayed before the senior police officials being that it will be able to take a flight upto 1000 feet. The officials of the company stated that the cameras fitted in drone would successfully be able to take clear pictures from a great height.
Another highlight being that in case the drone looses its path, the user at the ground will have an option of clicking the home button on the control console, to bring it back to the home location.
