Namami Gange project reality exposed: Garbage still being thrown in Ganga
India Today carried out a reality check of the project in Hajipur in Vaishali district of Bihar and what we found was not only shocking but it also shamed us.

Its just been a week that the Narendra Modi government's ambitious project on Namami Gange was launched simultaneously at over 300 places across the country on July 7. The reality of the entire Namami Gange project has been exposed.
Remember, it took Modi government a full two years time to launch ambitious Namami Gange program on the ground. The government approved the Namami Gange programme with an outlay of Rs 20,000 crore for five years. Several Union Ministers were present at various locations to start the project. In Bihar, Union Ministers Ram Vilas Paswan and Rajiv Pratap Rudy started this project in Hajipur and Sonepur, respectively.
HUMAN EXCRETA DUMPED INTO GANGA
India Today carried out a reality check of the project in Hajipur in Vaishali district of Bihar and what we found was not only shocking but shamed us. India Today visited the same place where Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan started the project in Hajipur and found that loads and loads of garbage and filth was directly being thrown into the Ganga. But this was not the end. Tankers filled with human excreta was also being dumped into the holy river. What makes this act unpardonable is the fact that it's the agencies hired by Hajipur Municipal Council for this job who are dumping garbage, filth and human excreta into the Ganga.
CONTRACTOR BLAMES FARMERS FOR MESS
When India Today's camera started to film the entire activity on their cameras, the workers who were throwing garbage and muck into the river started to run away along with their vehicle to escape being captured on camera. When India Today spoke to the contractor hired by the Hajipur Municipal Council for this job, he came out with all sort of excuses and even threatened us. Interestingly, the contractor is also a JDU leader and general secretary of the Kisan Cell of the party.
"I am leader of the JDU and general secretary also. The farmers are responsible for this mess because they ask us to dump garbage in Ganga so that there crop productivity increases", said Madhu Kant Singh, the contractor and JDU leader.
"This program has been started in haste and there are many lacuna in the project. No big project like this can become successful without the participation of the public", said Rajiv Pratap Rudy.
