Founder Institute returns to Jakarta with new directors and mentors, cash grants for top grads

Early applicants will also be eligible for different types of scholarship

Entrepreneur training and startup launch programme Founder Institute (FI) today opened applications for the sixth semester of the programme, which is set to close on August 14.

The four-month part-time programme also announced Izak Jenie and Boye Hartmann as new directors, accompanying Andy Zain which has been leading the programme since 2011.

With the aim to launch 10 “meaningful and enduring” tech startups each year in Jakarta, the programme will give participants opportunity to “learn by doing” and launch a company through structured training courses, practical business building assignments, and expert feedback from a large network of business mentors.

FI’s Jakarta chapter is also working with several sponsors to launch the Startup Launch Grant, an IDR100 million (US$7,600)-worth of non-equity grant for top graduates of the programme.

Early applicants will also be eligible for variety of scholarships, including the Female Founder Fellowship (offered to the best overall female applicant) and the Technical Founder Fellowship (offered to the best overall technical founder applicant).

The new semester will also provide over 60 mentors including Adrian Li (Convergence Ventures), Adrian Gunadi (Investree), Andy Sjarief (Nurbaya), Andrew Darwis (Kaskus), Antony Liem (Merah Putih Incubator), Danny Wirianto, (GDP Ventures), Daud Aditirto (Facebook), David Soukhashing (ANGIN), Dian Noeh Abubakar (Kennedy, Voice & Berliner), Dondi Hananto (Kinara), Edward Chamdani (ideosource), Erik Meijer (Telkom Telstra), Kevin Mintaraga (Bridestory), Khailee Ng (500 Startups), Remco Lupker (Tokobagus), Rico Frans (Bank Mandiri), Shinta Dhanuwardoyo (Bubu Ventures), William Tanuwijaya (Tokopedia), and many more.

Founder Institute has presence in 135 cities around the globe and claimed to have launched over 2,000 startups with 80 per cent survival rates.

The Jakarta chapter alumni includes Antonius Taufan (Founder of Giftcard.co.id), Handy Chang (Founder of IndoTrading.com), Gregorius Bimo (Founder of ProSehat), and Mandy Marahimin (Founder of Wujudkan.com), among the few.
