The upcoming Malayalam film starring superstar Mohanlal and Meena started getting canned in Kozhikode on Friday, July 15. The as-yet untitled project is the second directorial venture of Jibu Jacob, who rose to fame with Biju Menon's superhit comedy entertainer, "Vellimoonga."

"New role and new experience to Live. New Journey is about to begin. My Next movie is directed by Jibu Jacob under the banner of Weekend Blockbusters, Produced by Sophia Paul and script is by Sindhu Raj [sic]," the superstar posted on his Facebook page while sharing the photo of the pooja ceremony. 

"The shooting of my second movie after 'Vellimoonga' begins today in Kozhikode. The positive response we got for Vellimoonga is why I am directing my second film. I express my sincere gratitute to everyone who were part of the film," Jibu wrote on his Facebook page. "I am lucky to have superstar Mohanlal in my second movie, which is being produced by Sophia Paul and it is written by Sindhuraj. Most of the crew members who worked with me in 'Vellimoonga' are also part of this film. I seek the prayers and blessings of audience and well wishers on the start of my next venture. Thank God [translated from Malayalam]," Jibu added. 

The pooja ceremony on Friday was attended by Mohanlal, Meena, and musician M Jayachandran, among other cast and crew members of the film. Mohanlal plays panchayat secretary Ulahannan in the movie, which stars Biju Menon in the role of a government employee.The film also has Aju Varghese, Nedumudi Venu, Kalabhavan Shajon, Suraj Venjarumoodu and Sudheer Karamana in pivotal roles.

The upcoming movie marks the teaming-up of Mohanlal and Meena after Jeethu Joseph's blockbuster film "Drishyam." Aima Sebastian, who played Nivin Pauly's sister in the recent release "Jacobinte Swargarajyam," will be seen as the couple's daughter in it. The film is being bankrolled by Sophia Paul of "Bangalore Days"-fame under the banner of Weekend Blockbusters.
