Renault-Nissan Alliance To Dislodge Mahindra As Third Largest Carmaker

The Renault-Nissan combination in India is threatening to become the third largest car manufacturer in India. With the success of the Renault Kwid, it could dislodge Mahindra from the third position.

Buoyed by the demand for the entry-level car, the Kwid, and the redi-GO, the alliance is set to pip Mahindra in terms of volume in sales. The alliance is looking to increase the output at the Oragadam plant by 70 percent in 2017 fiscal.

The manufacturing plant near Chennai manufactures vehicles for Renault, Nissan, and Datsun brand. Renault has received 1.5 lakh bookings and to cater to the demand, it is planning to triple its annual volume to 1.6 units this fiscal year.

Datsun's newly launched redi-GO has got 10000 units of bookings since its launch a month ago, Nissan will grow in double digits to 65,000 units.

Guillaume Sicard, president of Nissan Motor India and head of the Oragadam plant, said "The business model is perfect and profitable. We are here to perform in all aspects, be it producing for sister company, producing for exports and also to do well in the domestic market,"

Renault and Nissan have found the code in India on how to create a sustainable operation and their one of the global company to start round the clock operations.

Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn is very optimistic about the potential in India and they are planning dozens of models based on their CMF-A and CMF-B architecture platform.
