An 18 year-old student who was neck-deep in debt allegedly committed suicide by hanging from a tree at K R Pete town on Thursday.

Mandya: An 18 year-old student who was neck-deep in debt allegedly committed suicide by hanging from a tree at K R Pete town on Thursday.
Yogesh, a D-Pharmacy student of Bharati College used to bet on IPl cricket matches and had run into huge debts, said police. Yogesh's mother is a teacher and father a private medical practitioner in Mandya. His parents were not at home at the time of the incident.

"Prime facie it seems cricket betting might be the reason for the suicide. However, we need to investigate the matter further," said a police officer. A case has been registered in K R Pete police station.
