Guwahati: Two more residents were killed in landslides in the city on Thursday despite steps taken by the Kamrup (Metro) district administration to minimize casualties in vulnerable areas. The deceased have been identified as Nurjahan Begum (11) of Nizorapar in the Noonmati area and Manik Chandra Rabha (71) of Hemgiri Path of South Sarania hills. "It was a terrible sight as the mud buried the little girl.
We tried hard but could not take her out alive," said an eyewitness. The personnel of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police and officials of the district administration later arrived for rescue operations. "The place was located in a danger zone. They should have taken precaution beforehand as it has been raining for some time," said an SDRF personnel.
The district administration has announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh for the family of the deceased.
