In view of World Blood Donors Day, an exclusive blood donation camp was organised for women in Vellore and about 90 units of blood were collected.

The camp, organised by District AIDS control society, was inaugurated by District Collector R. Nanthagopal. Joint Director of Medical Services Manimegalai and Deputy Director of Health Services K.S.T. Suresh were among those who participated.

When asked why an exclusive camp for women donors was organised, Dr. Suresh said that when going through the list of 24,000 donors in Vellore district last year only 1,208 were women. “Hence, we wanted to create awareness among women that it is safe for them to donate blood,” he added.
