Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka flayed the Telangana Rashtra Samithi government, accusing it of attempting to stifle the voice of those exposing large-scale corruption in the redesigning of several irrigation projects in the State.

He was speaking to the media here on Thursday after addressing a meeting of party cadres . TPCC vice-president and party district in-charge D. Sridhar Babu were also present.

Mr. Vikramarka alleged that the TRS regime was making false projections for creation of an irrigation potential of one crore acres to justify the arbitrary redesigning of the projects worth Rs. 2.20 lakh crore. “The government is trying to project the already created irrigation potential of 48 lakh acres as well as another 50 lakh acres that would be created under various irrigation projects initiated during the previous Congress government, as their own achievement,” he said.

The TRS regime was hell-bent on spending thousands of crores on redesigning irrigation projects to create an irrigation potential of a meagre 2 lakh acres. The Congress party will not allow anyone to swindle public money, he said, adding that the party will expose the massive scam both inside and outside the State Assembly, besides exploring all democratic means to prevent loot of public money.

Mr. Babu demanded that the TRS government make public the details of the survival rate of lakhs of saplings planted last year across the State.

Tree plantation is a social responsibility, he said, alleging that the way the State government is implementing the programme with much fanfare amid publicity blitzkrieg, it seems as if it is trying to divert public attention from various serious issues and problems plaguing farmers.

Former Union Minister P. Balram Naik, TPCC women’s wing president N. Sharada and others were present.

Meanwhile, the meeting of the frontal organisations of the party passed a resolution to implement a month-long action plan to strengthen various wings of the Congress party across the district.
