Farmers and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers, here on Thursday, staged a protest against E. Vijaya, Assistant Commissioner of Hassan sub-division. Alleging that the officer was corrupt, the protesters demanded her transfer from the post.

Last month, Ms. Vijaya was transferred as Administrative Officer of Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences. H.L. Nagaraj had been posted in her place. However, Ms. Vijaya succeeded in getting her transfer stayed in the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal and assumed charge on Wednesday.

A number of organisations had demanded her transfer and were jubilant when the order for the same had been passed.

However, Ms. Vijaya has returned to the post, prompting the organisations to begin protests again. Mr. Nagaraj has been asked to report for work at Bengaluru instead.

Members of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office. They raised slogans against the officer and demanded that Mr. Nagaraj be reinstated.

Anekere Ravi, farmers’ leader, led the protest

Similarly, members of the BJP staged a dharna in front of the Assistant Commissioner’s office demanding her transfer. Agile Yogish, BJP leader, said that Ms. Vijaya was a corrupt officer. He added that if the government did not heed to the demand, the BJP would intensify the agitation against the officer.
