BCC notice to Airtel over ‘illegal’ tower

July 15, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - BELAGAVI:

Bharati Airtel Limited, Bengaluru, and Ascend Telecom Infrastructure, a telecom infrastructure provider, have been served a notice and been directed to stop the installation of the allegedly illegal telecom tower atop Shradha Residency at Sampige Road in Sadashiv Nagar here.

Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) North Executive Engineer R.S. Nayak told The Hindu that the notice had been issued to two companies for installing the tower without permission from the corporation.

BCC officials inspected the spot and also seized the equipment used for assembly of the tower.

He said that no notice was served to Suresh C. Angadi, MP, or owners of the residential complex.

The notice has come as a boost to the owners and tenants of Shradha Residency, who strongly opposed the tower’s installation on the grounds that it is a health hazard, as reported in these columns on July 10, 2016. They had alleged that Mr. Angadi had allowed the tower’s installation against their consent only to harass them to the extent of the present owners surrendered the flats so that Mr. Angadi could sell them at higher prices now.

Mr. Nayak said though the BCC could consider granting permission to the company to install the tower, the onus of obtaining the consent of the present owners of the Shradha Residency was with the concerned company and not the BCC.

It was being set up reportedly without getting permission from the Belagavi City Corporation
