Sheila's projection as UP CM excites Kapurthala residents

Kapurthala: Old residents of the erstwhile princely state of Kapurthala will be curious to know about the performance of the Congress in Uttar Pradesh, as they have got a connection to the forthcoming assembly elections.
On Thursday, former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit was projected as the party's chief ministerial candidate for the state, much to the delight of Kapurthala residents.
Dikshit was born in Kapurthala at her mother's parental home. The former Delhi CM also studied in a local school for a year. The school was founded by her 'nani' or maternal grandmother. That deepens her roots here.
"After her birth, she also spent her early childhood days here, and then went to Delhi to live with her parents. When she was in the middle standard of her schooling, she studied here in a local Hindu Putri Pathshala, which was founded by her grandmother," said Dikshit's maternal uncle, nonagenarian VN Puri. "She would go to school with her 'nani', as the latter was also the honorary principal of the school. She would visit this place almost every year," he said.
"When she became the CM of Delhi for the first time, she visited the school and saw the room where her classes were held. She was very happy," said BM Gupta, former secretary of the school management. "During her every visit here, she would mention the school very fondly," he said, adding: "Local residents, especially old-timers, have always been watching her political career quite keenly."
