COLVA: Chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar visited Khareband in Benaulim on Thursday to inspect the collapsed road on the banks of River Sal. Parsekar was in Benaulim as part of the Jyotirmay scheme to distribute LED bulbs.
After a brief ceremony at the panchayat hall, Benaulim MLA Caetano Silva alias Caitu urged Parsekar to inspect the road-slide into the river. The road had collapsed during a heavy rain spell last month.
Silva explained to Parsekar that the collapse of the road into the river is due to dredging undertaken to clean and beautify River Sal.

The MLA explained that it has been close to a month since the incident occurred but no authorities have taken cognizance of the danger to the houses close to the river. On inspection, Parsekar said that he would check whether repairs could be undertaken by the disaster management authority.
