Two students have been before Cork District Court charged in connection with the investigation into the death of a young man who allegedly took a psychedelic synthetic drug known as an 'N-Bomb'.

Garda Daniel McEnery arrested Ruairí Maher of Thurles, Co Tipperary, and Jessica O’Connor of Ballyhar, Killarney, Co Kerry.

Both of them were charged with conspiring with another to possess a controlled drug for the purpose of sale or supply to another in Cork city on 18 January.

On the application of Inspector Finbarr O’Sullivan, the case was adjourned until 15 September at Cork District Court to allow time for preparation and service of the books of evidence.

It is anticipated that the cases will be sent forward ultimately for trial by judge and jury on dates to be set at the October sessions of Cork Circuit Criminal Court.

Mr Maher, 22, and Ms O’Connor, 20, were both remanded on bail until September.

There is no reference to the late Alex Ryan in today’s court proceedings. He died after taking the 'N-Bomb' drug last January.
