13 bridges need repair

Lucknow: Maintenance works on 13 of the 54 bridges in the city are yet to be completed by the PWD, LDA and irrigation departments. This was revealed during the fitness drive of the bridges undertaken on Thursday.
District magistrate Raj Shekhar said, "A fitness check of the bridges in the city was undertaken. As many as 54 bridges were cross-checked by two teams of engineers of Bridge Corporation." He said the main bridge portion of all the 54 bridges was found to be fit."In 13 cases, there are a few 'maintenance repairs' left, which have not been done," the DM said. tnn
All the departments have gone through these 'small maintenance repairs' and are preparing estimates of additional budget and will get the work done. The Lucknow district administration has instructed the departments to 'complete these maintenance repairs' in next two months, otherwise FIRs will be registered for criminal negligence against the engineers and officials concerned if any untoward incident happens.
On the present status and condition of the 8-lane Lohia Path bridge (located near Gomti Barrage), the observation made was that the structure of the bridge is safe. However, protection to the earth works' slopes on the joints is required.
