Bravery awardee ‘quits’ school over threat from stalker

Speaking to The Indian Express, the girl said that she was being “continuously harassed and stalked” by a youth from her locality.

“Veerpal is the brother of a woman who runs a gambling den in the locality and so no one dares to stand up to him. He threatened me with serious consequences if I approached the police. He used to pass objectionable comments and had once tried to make advances on me,” the girl alleged, adding that she was forced to wear a burqa every time she would step out of the house.

She said she met with the SSP and told him about her plans to quit studies “if the complaint was not registered”. She told police Veerpal would “follow her to the school” without any fear.

SP (City) Sushil Dhule said an FIR has been registered against four people – Veerpal, Chandra pal, Dhannu and Laxmi – on charges of molestation and assault. “We have assured the girl to go to school and also told her that no one would harm her in any way,” the SP said.

On March 8, the CM had handed over the Rani Laxmibai Bravery Award to her. She had also received Agra Gaurav award at Taj Mahotsav. “Even the DM and the SSP have given me certificates of appreciation,” she said.
