Una, July 14
The families, where a daughter is born in Una district, will henceforth receive a congratulatory greeting card, signed by the Deputy Commissioner. This decision was taken at a meeting of the district-level taskforce of the ongoing ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Yunus Khan here today.
Una is the only district in the state that figures in the list of 100 districts of the country, having the lowest child sex ratio. At the meeting, it was decided to install digital boards at public places, displaying messages on improving the child sex ratio and providing the girl child equal opportunities in life as compared to male child. The DC directed the District Panchayat Officer to ensure the publicity of the campaign through folk media in every panchayat and to organise awareness topics on the campaign at the gram sabha meetings.
The DC said the theme for the World Breast Feeding Week, to be observed in the first week of August, and the National Nutrition Week, to be observed during the first week of September, would be synonymous with the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign. The police and Health Department officials were directed to keep a strict vigil on ultrasound clinics allegedly involved in revealing the sex of the foetus.
