Bhagalpur: Two members of a bikers’ gang who were involved in gold chain-snatching incidents in the recent past were arrested on Thursday. The duo had snatched gold chains from two housewives--Mansi Rai and Anju Devi--from Masakchak locality near Manik Sarkar Chowk on Sunday. Incidentally, there has been a spurt in gold chain-snatching incidents by the bikers’ gang.
The arrests were made after Bhagalpur SSP Manoj Kumar ordered the SHOs to launch an intense checking of two-wheelers and monitoring the movements of bikers on city roads. Following the orders, police teams tightened the noose against bikers and were able to nab two youths - Anand Yadav and Ankit - from two different locations on a tip-off.
Anand was arrested from Gonarmal lane, whereas Ankit was arrested from Manik Sarkar locality.
Both the arrested youths earlier tried to deceive the raiding police team, but when confronted before the victims they had to accept the crime, said police sources adding the victims also identified the young criminals who snatched their gold chains. After ascertaining the identity of the chain snatchers, the police team produced them in the court and later sent them to jail.
The SSP said his priority is to make the district crime-free. “I have instructed all police personnel to adopt zero tolerance towards crime,” added the SSP saying safety of the people is our prime job. The SSP also said that a new SHO has been posted at Adampur police station following the suspension of his predecessor.
