When I was on the front page - Emily Vrbenski

By Megan Doherty

It was an ethereal, otherworldly shot by photographer Rohan Thomson that appeared on the front of The Canberra Times on September 20, 2013.

Emily Vrbenski, from Haus Models, wearing a Rockstars and Royalty gown, was photographed in the Nishi building to promote the Hustle and Scout fashion markets.

Now travelling overseas, Vrbenski, 23, said her stint on the front page was memorable.

"Appearing in The Canberra Times was phenomenal, especially gracing the cover in a Rockstars and Royalty dress," she said.

"I wouldn't consider myself to be very girly so wearing a dress that actually made me feel like royalty. It got a lot attention from friends and family especially because it was used so regularly and my parents made sure they kept at least five copies!"

As well as modelling, Vrbenski is a graphic designer in Canberra, specialising in logo design and brand identity. She is a Canberra local, previously attending St Mary MacKillop College and Erindale College.

"The past year I have been to Thailand [where she is pictured below], Indonesia and New Zealand and I'm currently travelling the US for six weeks," she said, from her travels last month.

"A career is important but you learn so much from travelling. It builds your character, you meet different people and experiencing another culture is a must. Living in Australia we are quite isolated from the world and it's interesting to see how other people live and experience everyday life."
