Following the successful participation in the U-15 synchro competition in Hungary last month, the Malta U-12 synchro swimming squad recorded more positive results when taking part in the Austria Youth Open recently.

The eight-strong Maltese selection, featuring Charlotte Spencer, Kristina Camenzuli, Thea Grima Buttigieg, Maya Galea, Hanna Rizzo, Anaelle Siby, Kelise Agius and Isabella Sammut competed in the figures events, duet, solos as well as team routine.

In the figures competition, the girls managed creditable top-10 placings with Spencer finishing seventh and Camenzuli ninth among 98 entrants.

In the team event, Synchro Malta also performed well, securing sixth place overall out of 10 teams in competition.

In the individual events, Spencer classified sixth while Galea was 14th, encouraging results that point towards a bright future for these two swimmers.

In the duets contest, Camenzuli, Buttigieg and Rizzo also cut a good figure, finishing sixth out of a total of 23 duets.

Szilvia Faraga, the head coach of Synchro Malta, was delighted with the results obtained by her girls in Austria Open.

Faraga noted that, although some of the girls were participating in an international competition for the first time, the placings achieved augur well for the sport and Synchro Malta.

“The girls were focused, dedicated and gave their best,” Faraga was quoted as saying.

“The plan now is to continue with our work on improving the figures as these have a direct impact on routines.”

Faraga thanked her assistant coach Janice Frapwell Baker, Beatrix Rizzo, the team manager, and also Graziella Galea who had her first judging experience during the competition in Austria.
