Uncertainty remains over around 450 government-quota seats in minority and deemed medical colleges even as the second round of counselling of the Common Entrance Test (CET) begins on Thursday. The colleges are yet to give the government’s share of seats, with no consensual agreement between the managements and the government being signed.
Last year, there were around 337 seats in 13 minority colleges and 127 seats from deemed varsities. However, this year, members of the Karnataka Religious and Linguistic Minority Professional Colleges Association have refused to part with their 25 per cent government-quota seats, demanding a hike in fees. Shafi Ahmed, secretary of the association, said the Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil had called them for a meeting on Thursday. Sources said the government had agreed to a fee hike and the consensual agreement would be signed soon.
