No ties with Naik, says Muslim outfit
NEW DELHI: Markazi Jamiat Ahle-Hadees Hind has said Zakir Naik had no association with it and that the outfit had time and again issued fatwas against terrorism.
The organisation said it preached love, peace, harmony and brotherhood and condemned terrorism, extremism, violence and anti-national acts.
Giving details of several of its events, Markazi Jamiat Ahle-eHadees Hind general secretary Maulana Asghar Ali Imam Mahdi Salafi said they had held a symposium in February 2015 against Islamic State and its terrorist acts.
“A fatwa was issued by us against them and their atrocities,“ a statement said.
“A conference against terrorism was held by us on July 22, 2006 attended by former PM V P Singh, Shivraj Patil (then home minister) and E Ahamed (then deputy foreign minister). At that time, in an interview with TOI, Maulana Asghar Ali Imam Mahdi Salafi had said we believe in secular India. We have condemned all terrorist acts, whether they were by Osama bin Laden or any other group,“ it said.
