YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy has asked the State government to explain farmers why there is disparity in compensation offered between the Pattiseema and Polavaram areas.

Addressing the Polavaram evacuees here on Wednesday, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy said the Chief Minister was not allowing the opposition parties to raise genuine issues such as compensation to farmers who lost their valuable lands for the Polavaram project.

While the Government gave Rs.20 lakh per acre to farmers in the Pattiseema area, those in Aswaraopeta and Sattupalli, who had parted with their lands for the Polavaram project about four years ago, were offered only Rs. 7 lakh per acre.

Stating that the Government had acquired lands in West Godavari district about nine years ago, the YSRC leader said that it was time to review the compensation and give as per Section 20 to 30 of the Land Acquisition Act of 2013.

Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy said that his party would not allow different packages for the same project and announced that he would take up the issue in the Assembly.
