Newlywed engineers own abduction with lover’s help

A 19-year-old woman staged her abduction with the help of her paramour and attempted to extort Rs50,000 from her husband, with whom she was unwilling to live with. The Hadapsar police team traced the woman to Chiplun in Konkan and handed her over to her family members.

Pune: A 19-year-old woman staged her abduction with the help of her paramour and attempted to extort Rs 50,000 from her husband, with whom she was unwilling to live with.
The Hadapsar police team traced the woman to Chiplun in Konkan and handed her over to her family members.
Assistant inspector Hemant Patil of the Hadapsar police station said about two months ago the woman got married to a man from Vadgaonsheri against her wish.
She was pursuing her studies fin a Hadapsar-based college.
"Around 7.30am on Saturday, the woman's husband dropped her off to the college," said Patil. Within half-an-hour, he received a text from the woman's cellphone. The sender stated that he had abducted his wife and demanded Rs50,000 to release her. The person also threatened the husband against informing police or he would kill the woman and remove the kidneys of the woman and dumped her body in a ghat section near Saswad.
The terrified husband immediately called his wife on her cellphone. "When she answered the call she was crying and urged her husband to save her from the abductor," said the police inspector. The worried husband and his relatives immediately went the police station and lodged a complaint. "We too swung into action after reading the threatening SMS on the complainant's cell phone," Patil said.
Meanwhile, the complainant was continuously receiving SMSs on his cell phone.

In the evening, the kidnapper sent another text, asking the complainant to deposit the amount in his own account, so that it could be withdrawn using the debit card, which was with his wife.
The police obtained information about the calls made by the kidnapper. "We had received a tip-off about the suspect being in Chiplun. We took the woman's uncle with us and rushed there on Saturday night," Patil said.
In the early hours of Sunday, the police team raided a lodge and found the complainant's wife with a person, Patil said. During interrogation, the woman admitted to have staged her abduction since she wanted to stay with her lover. "The woman also admitted that she and her paramour needed money, so they decided to extract it from her husband," added Patil.As of now, the woman has been handed over to her relatives.

The person also had threatened the woman's husband not to inform the police else he would removed kidneys of the woman and dumped her body in a ghat section near Saswad. "Terrified man immediately called his wife on her cell phone," Patil said.
Patil said that the woman answered the call. "She was crying and her urged her husband to save her from the abductors," Patil said.
Patil said that worried husband his relatives immediately approached the police station and lodged the complaint. "We too swung into action after reading the threatening SMS on the complainant's cell phone," Patil said.
Meanwhile, the complainant was continuously receiving SMSs on his cell phone. On the Saturday evening, he received the SMS, in which the kidnapper had asked the complainant to deposit the amount on his own account. "So that they can withdraw the amount by using the complainant's debit card, which was in possession of the complaint's wife," Patil said.
Patil said that the police started taking information about the calls made by the kidnappers. "We have received a tip-off that the suspects were in Chiplun in Konkan. We took the woman's uncle with us and rushed to Chiplun on Saturday night," Patil said.
Patil said that police team reached Chiplun in the early hours of Sunday and raided the lodge. "We found the woman with a person in the lodge," Patil said.
During the questioning the woman admitted that she had staged her own abduction and she wanted to stay with her paramour and not with her husband. "The woman also admitted that she and her paramour needed money, so they decided to extort it from ther husband," Patil said.
Patil said that the woman has been handed over to her relatives. "Our probe is on," Patil added.
