Sustainable livelihood programme: Second ‘Light House’ launched in Yerawada

The first Lighthouse, launched at Aundh, was inaugurated at the hands of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 25 as part of the smart city mission.

With one ‘Light House’ in every ward by 2018, the target is for 50,000 youths to graduate as part of the programme in the next 5 years.

Mayor Prashant Jagtap said, “PMC has initiated a lot of reshaping and developmental activities under the smart city mission. The ‘Light House’ is one such initiative and it aims to bridge the social divide between various tiers of Pune’s communities through strong collaborative participation of corporates and their contribution of CSR resources channelised via Pune City Connect.”

Chairman of PCC Ganesh Natarajan said, “Today, technology is all around us and we experience it in our day-to-day activities. Global technology must be used if we truly wish to transform skills development in our country. The Lighthouse uses technology like video walls, virtual and augumented reality which will enable effective skilling of the youth. We look forward to corporates in Pune seeing this as a natural base for collaborative CSR and are excited about the level of engagement and the tremendous support received from the government.”
