After three days of hunger strike by Students' Organization of India (SOI) member Karan Randhawa of Geology department, all of his demands were fulfilled by the university authorities. SOI members had demanded that credits for science department be lowered from 100 to 90 for MSc admissions and from 80 to 50% for BSc admission. SOI members were promised that a committee will be formed to reduce e-rickshaw fair for students who hold PU identity proof.

IAS coaching classes: Centre for IAS and Other Competitive Examinations, Panjab University (PU) has invited applications for forthcoming coaching classes for civil services preliminary examinations to be conducted by UPSC in 2017. The students can submit the application forms up to July 25. The entrance test for admission would be conducted on July 27. The graduates/final year college students in any subject/discipline recognized by UPSC are eligible for appearing in the test. The course shall be of four-month duration.
Transfer orders: Transfer orders of 2012 batch IPS officer of AGMUT cadre, Guriqbal Singh Sidhu, has been put in abeyance and he was given the charge of commandant IRB, Chandigarh police. Sidhu was transferred from Chandigarh to Arunanchal Pradesh dates back in May, 2016.
CH01-BG HSRP pending: The process for affixation of high security registration plates (HSRP) for series CH01-BG and CH03-N have been kept pending due to expiry of contract of existing vendor. The process for applying/affixation of HSRP on CH03-N and series CH01-BG and onward will be started after finalization of the new tender.
Clarification
In the news item 'PGI doc's car kills woman' published on July 13, the name of the PGI doctor was inadvertently written as Dr Seema Chopra. The actual name of the doctor is Dr Seema Chhabra. The error is regretted.
