Thakkar Bappa Vidyalaya gets Rs 55.5 lakh aid

The 70-year-old Thakkar Bappa Vidyalaya at T Nagar, which was ravaged in the December 2015 floods, received donations worth 55.5 lakh from corporates and other entities, apart from sponsors for building a new block at 30 lakh.

CHENNAI: The 70-year-old Thakkar Bappa Vidyalaya at T Nagar, which was ravaged in the December 2015 floods, received donations worth 55.5 lakh from corporates and other entities, apart from sponsors for building a new block at 30 lakh.
The centre for the underprivileged, for which Mahatma Gandhi had laid the foundation stone in 1946, has an industrial training centre, a school and a working women's hostel.

The donors were felicitated at a function at the school campus in presence of Hemalatha Shanmugam, wife of state additional secretary, industries department, M S Shanmugam.
