Texas lawmaker announces leukemia diagnosis

Rep. Ted Poe (R-Texas) announced Wednesday that he has been diagnosed with leukemia, though he intends to continue his work in Congress.

“I am fortunate enough to be treated by the finest physicians in the world right here in Houston at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center,” Poe said in a statement.
 
{mosads}”It is my intention to beat cancer and have a full recovery and continue to represent the people of Texas,” he added.
 
Poe is a member of the House Judiciary and Foreign Affairs committees and is chairman of the latter panel’s subcommittee on terrorism, nonproliferation and trade.
 
The Republican, who served as a criminal court judge in Houston for more than two decades before entering Congress in 2005, said he plans to spend the congressional recess in Texas focusing on his health.
 
“Thank you in advance for your thoughts and your prayers. The Good Lord will fix this, I believe. And that’s just the way it is,” Poe said.
