Vodafone Wallet launches NFC mobile ticketing in Albacete

ON THE GO: Vodafone Wallet is bringing NFC mobile ticketing to Spanish commuters

Commuters in the Spanish city of Albacete can now add their PayBus Albacete transport card to the Vodafone Wallet app and validate their journeys by tapping their NFC device against a contactless terminal on board.

The mobile network operator teamed up with transport ticket provider PrePay Technologies, Gemalto and bus operator Subus Vectalia Albacete to roll out NFC mobile ticketing across Spanish cities in February 2016.

“The requirements are as simple as downloading Vodafone Wallet from Google Play and adding the PayBus Albacete travel pass,” Vodafone Spain says. “You need one of the 66 makes of NFC handsets certified by Vodafone and an NFC SIM.

“Vodafone Wallet is a pioneering system that lets you keep your tickets on your smartphone and has already been in use successfully in Valencia and in Logroño since 2014, with high levels of customer satisfaction with the service in comparison with accessing public transport with the classical contactless card.”

“When you have your digital transport card for Albacete inside Vodafone Wallet, the only thing you have to do is to tap the NFC phone against a contactless NFC terminal to go into the bus,” Vodafone Spain explained to NFC World.
