Luxury bathroom firm back in profit

The Leicestershire-headquartered UK arm of luxury bathroom fittings maker Roca has returned to the black for the first time eight years, newly filed results seen by Insider have revealed.

Roca started life as a manufacturer of cast iron radiators in Gavà, near Barcelona, and started making bathroom products in 1929. The company set up its UK base in Coalville in 1993.

In the year to 31 December 2015, Roca generated a pre-tax profit of £1.5m compared to a loss of £266,000 a year earlier. It is the first time the business has reported a pre-tax profit since 2007.

Turnover also passed the £40m mark, increasing to £43.2m from £39.3m in 2014.

A statement filed with the results said the company has started to benefit from measures taken to improve its financial performance in recent years, such as enhancing its product range and customer service.

It added that the group is "actively focusing" on long-term growth in the UK and is benefitting from the Roca London Gallery.

"With the increasing global recognition of the Roca and other group brands, the company is well placed to meet its target for continued future growth," the statement said.

During the year, Roca employed almost 90 staff at its Coalville base. Its products have featured on Channel 4's Grand Designs and are installed in Gatwick's BLOC Hotel, and Andy Murray's Cromlix Hotel near Dunblane.
