Nashik: The heavy rains have brought good news for Satpur and Ambad industrial estates as the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) reduced the water cut to 10% from 25% on Tuesday.
After heavy rains spell of rains and subsequent rise in dam level, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) on Tuesday reduced the water cut to 10% from 25% in Satpur and Ambad MIDC areas effective from Tuesday.

Since January 3, MIDC had incorporated water cuts in phases in both the industrial estates due to water scarcity. The cut had been increased up to 25%.
Speaking to TOI, an MIDC official said, "We have reduced the water cut in Satpur-Ambad industrial estates by 15% to 10% due to better rains and rise in water levels in Gangapur dam, up to 55%. Earlier, we had imposed 25% water cut in industrial areas in view of scarcity of water. The decision to remove 10% water cut would be taken if water levels in dams increase further."
Sanjiv Narang, president of Nashik Industries & Manufacturers' Association (NIMA) said they welcome the decision. "The city has received good rains in the last few days and water level in Gangapur dam has also increased. Hence, MIDC should have removed total water cut and regularised the supply."
Gangapur dam is a major source of water for both the industrial estates, while Darna dam provides water to Sinnar MIDC areas. The Vinchur Wine Park receives water from Nandur Madhyameshwar reservoirs.
Satpur and Ambad require total 21 million litres per day (MLD). After the 25% water cut though, water supply in both the MIDC areas had reduced to 15.75 MLD. Apart from Satpur-Ambad, the daily requirement of Sinnar MIDC areas is 14 MLD, but MIDC had imposed around 95 per cent water cut in Sinnar industrial estate. MIDC has also decided to regularise water supply in Sinnar MIDC areas from Wednesday. Industries in Sinnar MIDC areas had been badly affected due water scarcity as they had to incur production losses to the tune of Rs 300 crore in past three-four months.
