Weeds Glass and Gifts is a marijuana dispensary located in the Exchange District.

It is the newest pot shop in town.

Owner, Donald Briere, said they focus on educating people about the use of medical marijuana first, and supplying it second, as there are no drugs to buy inside.

"Once people see the knowledge of education that we give them they will understand and realize that it really is safer and better than most pharmaceuticals are," Briere said.

Anyone with a proper medical prescription can walk-in, sign up and potentially have a package at their door within 48 hours.

People like Rupert Klien, who lives with numerous medical conditions.

"I have a blister in my left eye, Macular Degeneration and I suffer from cancer,” said Klien, who refuses to take any pain killers. "I think we should have more choices on what we do with ourselves and how we care for our health."

He explained that medical marijuana might be his best alternate option, which is why he came to the store.

Another similar clinic is also coming to downtown Winnipeg.

“Doctors here are quite cannabis savvy and do want to see people get off their synthetic medication and opioids," said Angelo Muscari with National Access Cannabis.

The Ottawa-based business is planning to expand to a Broadway location in the near future.

"This is alternative medicine, so we do have to be an alternative to something, which is why we ask for proof of past medications," he added.

Councilor Ross Eadie believes there is a need for easier access to medical marijuana for patients in Winnipeg, but it is not the only reason why more stores like this are popping up.

"We have people here positioning themselves for when marijuana is legalized and they will be able to sell medical marijuana in store," Eadie said.
