A widow belonging to endangered primitive Bihor tribe and a resident of Banji village under Mandu block of Ramgarh sold her two-day old infant for just Rs 2,000 to a man from Chatra district of the state on Monday.

Ramgarh: A widow belonging to endangered primitive Bihor tribe and a resident of Banji village under Mandu block of Ramgarh sold her two-day old infant for just Rs 2,000 to a man from Chatra district of the state on Monday. The woman is very poor and the motivation to sell her child was to make some money.
The matter came to the notice of the administration on Tuesday after which the authorities concerned started attempts to recover the child.

SDO Kiran Kumar Pasi confirmed that an infant had been sold by his mother and said that administration has started serious initiatives to recover the sold child from Chatra.
"The man who has purchased the infant has been identified and officials, including the block development officer of Mandu block has been directed to return back the infant from Chatra," said an official
"We have launched an initiative to recover the male child sold by her mother Ano Devi as she claimed that she is unable to manage the expenses for the child. The block development officer of Mandu has been directed to take all steps to bring back the infant from Chatra, said SDM Kiran Kumar Pasi.
Ano Devi gave birth to an infant after her husband died six month ago, leavving three daughters and three sons behind. Two of the daughters got married and she has to look after four children while she has no means of income generation, official sources said.
