KOZHIKODE: Kudumbashree Kozhikode District Mission will launch a project to promote a healthy lifestyle and healthy agriculture system among people through ayalkoottams. The project, named as ‘Polivu’, is based on five principles- healthy lifestyle, health, cleanliness, pure water and waste management at source.
Kudumbashree is also planning to start farming on 295 hectares of land in the district through over 24,000 ayalkoottams and bala sabhas as part of ‘Polivu’ and will launch the project by distributing saplings at ayalkoottam level. At present, Kudumbashree is doing farming on 3120.1 hectare land through 3,633 farming collectives. The new project will cover areas apart from this 3,120 hectare land and Kudumbashree is also planning to grow more varieties of crops.
The District Mission is also aiming to encourage children to participate in programmes related to environmental conservation and health through the project. Seminars, discussions, promotion of organic vegetables and activities related to de-centralized waste management will also be encouraged. A high-level committee including District Collector, District Panchayat President, Kudumbashree District Mission Coordinator has been formed for the effective functioning of the project.
