Berhampur: Members of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the BJP, on Tuesday staged protest during the visit of two ministers - food supplies and consumer welfare minister Sanjay Das Burma and higher education minister Pradeep Panighrahi - to the Berhampur University (BU).
The ministers visited the BU to attend a workshop on improving employability through skill development in ITIs and distribute job offer letters to ITI trainees.
The workshop was organised by Directorate of Technical Education and Training, Cuttack.
The BJYM members raised slogans against the ministers protesting against June 24 attacks on Union ministers at Bargarh during Vikash Utsav.
Police detained seven BJYM members as a preventive measure. The detained included district BJYM president Sidhant Gangadev and general secretary Rajendra Kumar.
They were detained apprehending clash between workers of the BJP and the BJD, said a senior police officer. The ministers, however, left the BU smoothly, police said. The ministers did not comment on the development.
They distributed job offer letters among 396 ITI trainees on the occasion, said Rajat Panigrahi, principal, ITI Berhampur.
