Two killed as trailer hits pillar of freeway

Two people were killed and one was injured when a motor trailer rammed into a concrete pillar of Eastern Express Freeway, near Messant Road, in the early hours of Tuesday. The deceased were identified as Vishal Bhramadev Rajwar (19) and Sandeepkumar Laxmikant Yadav (25). Driver Narendra Kumar Yadav (35) escaped with minor injuries and a dismembered finger of the left hand. Their families have been located in Uttar Pradesh and are being called for identification by the police.

“The incident occurred at around 5:45 a.m. The driver is believed to have lost control of the trailer, ramming into poll number 168 of the freeway bridge. The front cabin was flattened in the impact. The driver managed to escape, while the two others present in the cabin died,” a police spokesperson said. The injured were immediately taken to JJ Hospital where they were declared brought dead. The driver was arrested after he was discharged, and an investigation is on.

Rescue operations began at 6:20 a.m. by Sewri Fire Station. The truck was moved to the side of the road and traffic blocked at the site was cleared within minutes.
