GURGAON: The district administration and the traffic police have joined hands with the regional transport authority (RTA) to improve the transport infrastructure and make commuting a pleasant experience in Gurgaon.
The plan mainly includes deploying PCR vans on the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway and decongesting the sector roads.
The decision was made during the road safety meeting on Monday.
which was held between officials from the district administration, RTA, traffic police, MCG, Huda, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the district education department.
DCP (traffic) Balbir Singh said a PCR van will be deployed at every 10km on the expressway and sheds will be built for the policemen.
The idea is to curb crime, manage traffic as well help commuters in case of a car breakdown. Initially, eight PCR vans will be deployed.
"PCR vans will be stationed on the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway," said Singh. "The commuters can report any mishap on the expressway to the police control room," he added.
The plan also includes building cycle tracks and pedestrian paths at some stretches on Old Gurgaon Road and declaring the area around Sadar Bazar as a "no parking zone".
Also, all main markets and the roads near them will have a strict tow away policy for vehicles parked in the "no parking zone". To make this clear, 'No Parking and Tow Away Zone' signages will be installed near the markets, officials said.
Considering the safety of schoolchildren, speed breakers will be constructed near schools in Gurgaon. "The district education department has been asked to ensure that all school buses have GPS and CCTV cameras installed. Regular checks will be done in this regard by the education department," a senior official told TOI.
