“He is not speaking clearly about why he killed his son. We will wait till he calms down, before interrogating him again,” said Inspector Netaram Maske, of J J Marg police station, who headed one of three teams formed to trace Khan.

Khan had been living at his sister’s home in Nagpada to celebrate Eid. Last Wednesday, he told his wife Samina that he wanted to take their son Kaif to the market to buy him new clothes. In the evening, when they did not return, Samina filed a missing person’s complaint.

Festive offer

However, the next morning, she allegedly received a phone call from Khan, in which he said he had killed Saif and dumped his body a drain near the train tracks.

The railway police later found the body between Sandhurst Road and Byculla railway stations.
