Greetings again from Minnesota, ancestral home of the Democratic Farmer Labor (DFL) party, and we’ll discuss what happened to that “farmer” part in a bit. Darn near the middle of July and even a tall Scandinavian democratic socialist can get lost in the head high and then some corn, and we can pretty well see how the elections are shaping up. ‘Cording to pollster.com and the other poll aggregators, Hillary has a 40% favorables but Trump has even worse, 37%. If you looked at that number alone you’d throw everything the party has behind Hillary and the DNC and their subordinates will, but out of political loyalty rather than statistical awareness.
But looking further into the favorables polling, Hillary is our worst performer while Trump is right in that low line with the rest of the republicans. Yup, democrats are polling at 46% favorable and the republicans at 31% favorable! It gets better… I’m hearing of internal polling in a midwestern state that show democratic legislative challengers to republican incumbents leading or within single digits in every race surveyed so far! My fellow democrats, we’re looking at a “wave election” that could return both houses of congress and a horde of statehouses to democratic leadership!
Of course, the Hillary campaign, DNC, and there henchmen and women are not about to allow such an opportunity to elect a permanent democratic majority distract them from their mission of running up the score for Hillary. So with every single legislative district in Minnesota potentially winnable, our Democratic Farmer Labor Party has scarcely sent it’s campaign staffers beyond the safety of the metro, the iron range, and maybe Rochester and a couple college towns. Memo to the DFL: Cows don’t bite, and our wind turbines out here won’t suck you up. 20 miles west in the Dakotas, where democrats ignored the DNC’s advice and elected yet another democratic senator, the DNC is MIA. 50 miles south in Iowa where even the most republican congressional district is only R+5, There so distracted with Hillary that about all they’ll accomplish otherwise is accidentally defeating one term republican congressman Blum in that dem leaning district. And back here in Minnesota, the House DFL caucus will again narrowly target and win back just enough seats to retake control of the state house… Then lose control again in 2018.
We’re taking our party back… while the Hillary hacks are jockeying for appointments in her administration, we’re looking to win seats on the DFL state executive board this year and party leadership positions next year. We need to donate our time and $$$ to our local candidates instead of to our state parties and the DNC and their campaign mismanagement and overhead. And about that “farmer” part of the DFL… The Democratic Farmer Labor Party actually has a rule that kept farmers and rural folks from having their own caucus like the feminists, environmentalists, gays, blacks, etc. do. That rule says that no caucus can represent just a portion of the state, and that’s the excuse for “No” I was given when I tried to start a rural caucus a few years ago. ‘Cept now with inner cities losing population and their districts growing bigger and the advent of urban farming there are farmers in every Minnesota congressional district. They tightened the rules on caucuses again this year because they’re control freaks and don’t want the caucuses telling them they’re wrong when they are, but despite those attempts, we’re gonna have a farmer’s caucus in the Minnesota Democratic Farmer Labor party!
So while the Hillbots, DNC, tired party leaders, and the old guard celebrate their defeat of Bernie and blow there wad on Hillary... We’re taking our party back!
