Hot and humid weather is on the way out, as Environment Canada ends a heat warning.

Environment Canada issued a heat warning on Monday, as a hot and humid airmass from the Gulf of Mexico moved into the region. That airmass brought temperatures up to 33 C, but with the humidex it felt more like 40 C.

The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority is asking businesses and residents to reduce their water consumption.

In a statement the LSRCA says a lack of rain over the last several months has contributed to drought conditions. Manager of engineering Tom Hogenbirk states that it is putting a strain on municipal water supplies.

“While we did see some rain in parts of the watershed this past weekend, it wasn’t enough to counter the effects of the hot, dry weather over the last couple months. Until we see enough rain to bring us out of the early drought stage, we’re encouraging all water users to conserve, including businesses, aggregate operations, golf courses, water bottlers, farms and residents,” Hogenbirk said.

For that reason the conservation authority is asking people to limit their water usage.
