Police yet to identify killers
After a month into the killing of Nityaranjan Pandey, a volunteer at a Hindu ashram in Sadar upazila, police are yet to identify or arrest any of the killers.
On June 10, unidentified assailants hacked Nityaranjan Pandey when he was taking his morning walk about half a kilometre away from the ashram around 5:30am.
Soon after the incident, Islamic State (IS) claimed the responsibility for the killing.
The 60-year-old was a sebak (volunteer) at Sree Sree Thakur Anukulchandra Satsang ashram (monastery) at Hemayetpur in Pabna Sadar.
Established in 1922, the historic ashram of 94 years heritage posing a different looks under the security measures of the law enforcers.
The killing of Nittyaranjan sparked panic among the ashram devotees and most of the residents of the ashram did not dare to go outside of its compound during their morning walk, said Jugol Kishore, secretary of the Asram.
Besides, the devotees had to visit the ashram under tight security of the law enforcers which they never experienced before, Kishore added.
A police officer, seeking anonymity, said they are investigating the murder from different angel but the reason behind the killing is not clear yet.
