Chelsea player of the year Willian agrees new four-year deal at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea star Willian has committed his long-term future to Stamford Bridge, putting pen to paper on a new four-year deal. The Brazil international still had two years remaining on his contact, but the club have extended his stay until 2020 after he was named player of the year by both fans and teammates last season.

The 27-year-old winger moved to West London in the summer of 2013 from Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala, having previously garnered a big reputation at Shakhtar Donetsk. He was expected to move to Tottenham Hotspur at the time, but instead the Blues beat their London rivals to the punch, paying a fee of around £30m (€35.9m).

Willian has since developed into a key player for the Blues. He won the Capital One Cup and Premier League titles during the 2014-15 campaign, and was arguably the only bright light in Chelsea's disastrous 2015-16 season.

The club have now decided to reward him with a new long-term deal.

"Chelsea's player of the year Willian has committed his future to the Blues today by signing a new four-year contract," the club confirmed through an official statement.

"The 27-year-old Brazilian is extending his stay at Stamford Bridge until 2020 following an excellent 2015-16 season in which he was voted our best player by both fans and his teammates."

The Brazilian international expressed his delight over the agreement, adding that he hopes the club can fight for silverware next season following a barren 12 months.

"I'm very happy to sign a new contract with Chelsea. It's a dream to continue with this club and over the next four years I will try to help the team win more trophies," William said.

"It's been an amazing time for me since I joined the club three years ago, I've won titles and last season I was named Chelsea player of the year. I hope to be able to stay at that level during the coming seasons and achieve more success."

Technical director Michael Emenalo added that the new deal confirms the Brazilian will have a big role to play under new manager Antonio Conte.

"We are very pleased to agree a new long-term deal with Willian, who has proved himself to be an important player for the team since he arrived here. We are looking forward to seeing his continued impact as we begin an exciting new campaign under first-team head coach Antonio Conte."
