Taliban takedown: One commander killed, 13 militants arrested in central Afghanistan

A Taliban commander has been killed and 13 others militants captured during security forces operation in central Logar and southern Zabul provinces, an official and a statement said on Tuesday.

Governor Mohammad Halim Fidai told reporters Taliban Commander Hamidullah known as Shaer was killed, two wounded and four others arrested in security forces operation in Aspid locality on the outskirts of Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital.

He said 39,000 Pakistani Rupees, five hand grenades, two guns, one remote control bomb and explosives were recovered by security forces during the offensive. Security forces and civilians suffered no casualties, he added.

Gul Ahmad the resident of locality said security forces came to their area in the morning. They stormed a house and arrest some individuals.

Separately, security forces held a group of nine militants in Qalat, the capital city of southern Zabul province, a statement from National Directorate of Security (NDS) said.

The detained individuals were involved in "terrorist activities" in the province, the statement said.
