North and Central Gujarat receive 1 to 4 inch downpour, heavy rain warning for next 24 hours

Ahmedabad: The Met Department has forecast more rains for Central and North Gujarat during next 24 hours with heavy rain warning owing to an upper air cyclonic circulation over South West Madhya Pradesh even as 168 talukas of 29 districts (of total 33) experienced monsoon showers during last 24 hours giving some respite to several parts of the state which were desperately waiting for it.

Several rivers in Southern and Central Gujarat including Orsang and Ambika have flooded owing to the recent spell of rains. The water level of the Sardar Sarovar Dam (114.82 meters) on Narmada river and others in the region have seen surge in water levels. Madhuvan dam near Valsad in South Gujarat has also witnessed heavy intake of water and its nine sluice gates have been opened.

Though Dang taluka of Dangs district in South Gujarat, which had recorded very heavy rains in last 48 hours, registered maximum 113 mm of downpour during last 24 hours, many areas of North Gujarat parching owing to scanty rain have also witnessed around 4 inches of rain. The rains in many of these areas continued today as well.

During last 24 hours Mahesana taluka witnessed 104 mm, Kaparada and Limkheda in central Gujarat also saw similar amount of rains. Other places with considerable amount of rains are Lunawada (98 mm), Shehra (92 mm), Quant (87mm), Jambughoda (83 mm),Godhara (77mm), Palanpur (72mm).

Ahmedabad city witnessed 22 mm of rain since last evening to 0830am today. It is also witnessing moderate rains during the day. The district on an average recorded 18.3 mm rain with light to moderate drizzle continuing through the night. Many low lying areas of the city are witnessing water logging.

With the spell of rain during last 24 hours the percentage rain fall across Gujarat has become 15.67% , a 2 % rise from yesterday.

The met department warning for the next 24 hours says – Heavy rains most likely at isolated places over Gujarat region and in Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli.
