Man From Delhi Rents A Car, Sells It, And Steals It Again - Caught!

By Rajkamal

As confusing and bizarre as it sounds, that's what 28-year old Mintoo Kumar did. A BCA graduate and a son of a retired Captain of the Indian Army, Kumar rented out a Mahindra XUV500, posed as the owner and sold in an e-commerce site, and stole it the same night from the new owner.

It all started when police received a complaint about a missing car. When police checked the details, it belonged to a different XUV500 from Delhi.

Explaining the event, a police officer explained, "The owner was not lying. He had bought the car through the site.It was stolen the same night. Initially we thought he was sold a stolen vehicle but later we suspected the seller may have stolen the same car from the new owner. We registered a case and began probe."

While the incident was being investigated, police received a tip-off and arrested Mintoo Kumar, who was trying to sell off the vehicle again. He was nabbed.

When he was questioned, he said that he stole the car seven hours after selling it to a person and the reason he did it was because his business, a spa, was running under a loss.

According to the police, Mintoo Kumar rented out a XUV500 two months ago. He would then look out for for another XUV of the same colour and make notes. He would then forge a duplicate RC and sell it to unsuspecting customers. Later, he would use the GPS system to locate the sold car and steal it with a duplicate key. Quite brilliant.
